Sulawesi Toraja

$ 19.99

One Real 16oz. Pound

Sulawesi coffee comes and goes. Like an old friend, we pick up where we left off, discovering new qualities that we love.

The most distinguished Sulawesi coffee is Toraja, which is as ancient and mysterious as the Indonesian Islands themselves.

Sulawesi Toraja is full-bodied, rich, and bursting with expansive flavor, a deep, brooding cup of coffee.

If you love Sumatra coffee, you will adore Sulawesi's rich, earthy, and highly regarded addition to your specialty coffee experience.

At first, the aromas of chocolate and dark fruit hit you, and then the cup plunges into earthy depths with a touch of smokiness. The lingering finish reveals a hint of ripe fruit and dark chocolate.

Aroma:  Earthy, Sweet Snuff
Cup: Sharp, Nectarous Stone Fruit
Finish:
Lingering, Ripe Fruit, Dark Chocolate

Sulawesi Toraja Sapan Grade 1 is sourced from 23 family-owned farms organized around the Toraja Coffee Farmers' Cooperative, located in the central mountain region of South Sulawesi Province on the island of Sulawesi (formerly known as Celebes), Indonesia.

Sulawesi is a starfish-shaped island, far older than the rest of the Indonesian archipelago, with a complex geography, including thousand-foot rock walls exploding vertically out of rice paddy fields and capped in perpetual mist.

The Toraja people are an indigenous group with a traditional village lifestyle that includes houses resembling boats and animist rituals called aluk to dolo (the way of the ancestors), reminiscent of Santeria.

In recent years, the Toraja Coffee Growers Cooperative has been collaborating with VECO, an NGO dedicated to enhancing farmers' access to improved agricultural practices for high-quality coffee production and improving coffee farm infrastructure.

The partnership has helped to improve quality, increase earnings from coffee sales, and strengthen farmers’ livelihoods.

Morning Coffee

This coffee is for early morning. The coffee has hints of rich chocolate as an under layer with a bold overtone.

Another hit from Indonesia

The Sulawesi Toraja is another great coffee from Indonesia! It is slightly stronger than others I have tried, so to gain the same beautiful flavors, I have found it preferable to use less coffee per cup. The brown sugar, toffee and a hint of earthiness makes this the bomb!
